Artist Statement
My work is rooted in color, movement, memory, and the energy of human connection. I create vibrant, layered compositions that bring together painting, graffiti, collage, typography, symbols, and fragments of everyday visual culture.
I am drawn to the emotional power of color and its ability to transform a space. My paintings are built intuitively, through a process of adding, covering, revealing, and responding. Words, gestures, Jewish references, Israeli imagery, and personal symbols often appear within the layers, creating works that can be experienced both visually and emotionally.
Art has always been my way of communicating with the world. I do not see painting as a solitary act. The people, conversations, environments, and experiences around me become part of the work. Each piece carries this exchange of energy.
At the heart of my practice is a celebration of life. I want my work to radiate optimism, gratitude, freedom, and joy while still leaving space for personal interpretation. The viewer is invited to look closely, discover hidden details, and form their own relationship with the artwork.
Artist Statement
Meir Levy is a French-Israeli contemporary artist known for his energetic, colorful, and richly layered mixed-media works. Born in Paris in 1960, he grew up in a creative environment surrounded by galleries, art collecting, and painting. His father was both a painter and an art collector, and Levy began drawing and painting from an early age.
At eight years old, Levy moved with his family to Israel. During the journey, a suitcase containing his childhood drawings was lost, creating a symbolic separation between his early life in France and the new chapter that followed. His connection to art continued to develop throughout his school years, where a teacher’s encouragement inspired him to begin working on larger surfaces.
Over the years, Levy has explored painting, graffiti, design, lithography, collage, and mixed media. His visual language combines bold color, expressive mark-making, typography, symbols, Jewish texts, Israeli cultural references, and elements drawn from contemporary life.
Human interaction plays an important role in his creative process. Levy translates the energy of people, places, and conversations into paintings that feel immediate, spontaneous, and alive. His work is recognized for its positive emotional presence and its ability to reveal new details with every viewing.
Today, Levy’s practice centers on joy, light, faith, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for life. His recent work also reflects a return to the visual instincts of his childhood, creating a connection between his earliest drawings and the expressive language that defines his art today.
