Artist Statement

Nature is the foundation of my work, not as something to be documented, but as something to be reimagined. Drawing inspiration from the extraordinary biodiversity of Costa Rica, I transform familiar organic forms into surreal environments where reality and imagination coexist. Shells, mushrooms, flowers, vines, and celestial elements become symbolic structures that invite viewers into worlds that feel both recognizable and entirely new.
Working across digital painting and acrylic on canvas, I explore the relationship between the microscopic and the infinite. A single natural form can expand into an entire landscape, suggesting that even the smallest details hold immense emotional, spiritual, and universal significance. Through vibrant color, intricate compositions, and dreamlike imagery, I seek to evoke curiosity and wonder, encouraging viewers to look beyond appearances and rediscover nature as a place of endless possibility.

Artist Biography

Andrés Arias is a Costa Rican contemporary artist whose work transforms the natural world into richly imagined, surreal environments.
